Mind Over Matt(er)

a creative buzz

Since I was about 14, I wanted to pursue a career within the creative industry. I ended up picking graphic design because I couldn't draw and that dashed my hopes of becoming an illustrator.

I saw myself as a designer winning all sorts of awards and becoming a rockstar in the same vein that I saw David Carson. Unfortunately, that never quite came true, frankly due to my own laziness and my own misjudgement when it came to what I expected from the design industry.

For the last few years, it's been a struggle when it comes to feeling any sort of passion or motivation when it comes to creative projects, I'd lost all enthusiasm and spark for creating.

Recently, that has been changing and it hit a peak when I started this blog, it gave me something that I didn't realise I'd been missing for so long... A sense of freedom.

Freedom to write whatever was on my mind without worrying about if it was polished or perfect.

When I started this blog, I thought of it as something separate, but I've now started to think of this as the beginning of my own universe, something I've been thinking of as the Mattiverse1 (catchy right?).

This has given me all sorts of ideas for directions I want to go, so at some point in the future, I will be bringing this blog into the Mattiverse, but for now, I am enjoying the freedom that comes from Matterr.

Why do I bring this up then?

Because I wanted to remind you that sometimes all it takes for a spark to return is to remember that you have the freedom to be yourself, to do what you want to do and not have to worry about anyone else.

And that's something that I definitely get a buzz from.

  1. I have already made a start on getting this up and running and damn if I'm not excited by it.
