drive to keep going
This post comes off the back of me having finished Shoe Dog, the memoir of Nike Co-Founder, Phil Knight.
The theme of the book could be summed up by Knight's determination to keep going.
It's a nice sentiment and one that we have all heard throughout our lives. The quote "If you're going through hell, keep going" is the one that is currently ringing in my ears. But it does bring up an interesting thought for me.
We seem to associate this determination only when it comes along with success.
When someone is successful, against all odds because they've pushed, scraped and clawed their way through all problems, issues and mistakes. We put them on a pedestal, we think that if we could work that little bit harder, maybe we could have that same level of success.
The truth is though, 99% of us will never have that success, because our luck simply isn't in at the point we need it.
Does that mean we should stop? Give up? Accept our fate and plod along?
Of course not!
I want you to celebrate the fact that you're still going despite everything. We all have that same level of determination that people like Phil Knight do, we all overcome problems and mistakes every single day.
We have the drive to keep going, but we don't get celebrated.
Well, I want this post to be a celebration of us all who despite everything are still going.
If you're able to get yourself up, get yourself to school, to work or simply into the shower... You're a champion.
People like Phil Knight might get to have a book written about them, but we're all deserving of acknowledgement when we make the choice to never stop.
