getting lost in career wilderness
I don't hate my job.
That has to be my first sentence because the truth is I've been very fortunate in my current role, the people are fantastic, the job itself is well within my capabilities and although I may not agree with every decision the company makes (who does?), they aren't a bad company to work for.
I've been there now for over 8 years and my motivation and fulfilment around my work has all but diminished. My role is quite niche and the skillsets I've developed aren't as in-demand anymore due to the rise and advancement of technology.
So, where do I go from here? I've been able to get myself into a middle-management role that pays well and is in my capabilities, but the longer I stay there, the more disappointed I become around the lack of challenge or fulfilment.
It's comfortable would be the best way to put it.
My instincts are telling me that I need something completely different, I don't want another role around Graphic Design, but I very much want something that allows me to solve problems, I'd rather be able to work on my own, but I'm absolutely fine working as part of a team... Ideally, something hybrid or remote...
I'm going to start exploring what's out there that can help me build some skills that reflect the current changes to technology.
Wish me luck...
