freedom is something you take
I started reading 'The 4-Hour Work Week' today. I'd heard plenty of people recommend it, but I figured it was going to be the same usual self-help style nonsense.
I'm about 15% of the way through the book at the minute (about 60 pages in) and to be honest, Tim makes a lot of sense, but there's a quote from James Victore that I had a kind of 'aha' moment about while reading.
"Freedom is something you take".
I never really got it before, how can I 'take' freedom when I have a job, bills and relationships to think about?! Sounds completely irresponsible.
It highlights the mentality for a lot of us doesn't it? We believe we can't take freedom so we don't even consider the fact that it's available to us if we so desire it.
I've never really stopped to think about what real freedom would be for me, I just thought if I could make a bit more money, have a bit more free time and maybe have a few more interesting experiences, that would be it for me.
I'm starting to believe that it would be a lot simpler now that I'm starting to think about it.
I don't know if it's the initial interest in the book or if there's more to Tim's book than the usual self-help style nonsense I've read, I'll let you know when I finish it.
But in the meantime, I have a question for you on this Sunday evening...
What does freedom look like to you?
